PRIMARY SOURCES

     -an excellent and comprehensive source of period  
     scripture and non-canon literature.
     -History of the Church, Life of Constantine, Orations
     in Praise of Constantine by the great historian of the
     Church
    -Antiquities of the Jews, Wars of the Jews, The Life
     of Flavius Josephus, Josephus' Discourse to the
     Greeks Concerning Hades, Flavius Josephus Against
     Apion

SECONDARY SOURCES

       -Gibbon's treatment of the period in Roman Empire after
     Marcus Aurelius, in which he expounds on the reasons
     for Rome's demise.  Excellent background for 
     understanding the world in which many early Christians
     lived.
